Port Aransas, formerly known as Ropesville and as Tarpon, is a resort and fishing community on Mustang Island twenty-four miles northeast of Corpus Christi in extreme northeastern Nueces County.
Three years after General Sam Houston and his footsore army won Texas' independence at San Jacinto, the trading post from which Corpus Christi sprang, was established on the west bank of the Nueces River.

Vega 1922. The present county seat [of Oldham County] is located on the Rock Island Railroad, which passes through the southern part of the county.
Oldham had one of the first county organizations in the Panhandle. a local government having been organized, with Tascosa as the county seat, in December, 1880.
