Liberty, 1935. Liberty.—This is a small place on the east bank of the Trinidad river, in Vehlein’s grant, at the intersection of that river by the road leading to San Felipe. It is a point in the weekly mail route, established between San Felipe and Belew’s Ferry on the Sabine river. It is the capital of a jurisdiction, and its citizens have taken an active part in the war of Independence. - Texas by Holley, Mary Austin; Austin, Texas, 1935, page 123
