Vanderbilt is located at 28°49'20" North,
96°36'57" West (28.822110, -96.615708). According to the United States
Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.9 km˛ (1.9 mi˛). 4.9 km˛
(1.9 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 411 people,
146 households, and 111 families residing in the town. The population
density is 84.0/km˛ (217.2/mi˛). There are 163 housing units at an average
density of 33.3/km˛ (86.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 65.94%
White, 10.46% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00%
Pacific Islander, 20.19% from other races, and 3.16% from two or more
races. 32.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 146 households out of which 41.1% have
children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% are married couples
living together, 11.6% have a female householder with no husband present,
and 23.3% are non-families. 22.6% of all households are made up of
individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or
older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is
3.32.
